Civil engineering is a basic branch of engineering and is also called as mother branch. Its wide range of application in the field of Infrastructure. A country is identified as a developed one only from the view of its living system, Infrastructure, Transportation facilities, Vertical growth etc. Increase in the population leads to the need of Shelter with the hygienic conditions. For the small areas, the vertical growth of buildings finds the solutions. R. N. Shetty Rural Polytechnic in Murdeshwar is enriching the knowledge of students in the field of Civil Engineering since 2005.

The department incorporates well equipped laboratories, calibrated machines and equipments, also includes good drawing boards with neat arrangements, well equipped seat and table arrangements, well developed computer labs with Internet Facilities.

It also incorporates well equipped library facilities with good rack arrangements for easy accessible to the respective books. The result of students was very good from the First batch & continued.

Why to choose Civil Engineer?

The first priority among the different branch of engineering is given to the civil engineering. All other branches are derived from the civil engineering. It is an old and has an ever ending scope. The work of other branches starts only with the suitable infrastructure building. Its scope is vast and has good opportunities in all fields. Such as Construction field, Geological department, Railway department, Transportation department, in banks as a chartered and valuer engineers (penal engineers). It splits into different divisions of work i.e. field work, Office work, design work, estimation and costing departments. Students may choose any of the divisions of their choice.

In our college civil engineering branch was started in the year 2005-06. Student's placement was 100%, since from last seven years. There is a more need of civil engineers, present and in future. It has a universal scope, students may find their career in and outside the countries (abroad and Dubai countries).

A country is said to be advanced and developed one, only when there is a attractive infrastructure, good transportation facilities. Hence all countries are marching towards the development of infrastructure and transportation facilities. Hence civil engineering gains the first priority.

Finally it is concluded that the civil engineering is the branch which is evergreen and fulfills the major requirements of people and for the society in concern.

Diploma in Civil Engineering is a course of 6 Semesters at duration of 3 years. In first two semesters student will learn 6 subjects each including theory and practicals. In later course from 3rd to 6th, each semester includes 7 to 8 core subjects including practical.

In first year (1st and 2nd Semester) the students get thorough knowledge of construction materials, get basic knowledge of surveying, Science, Engineering Mathematics, English, Engineering Drawing, Applied Science and computer applications.

In second and third year 3rd Semester onwards they study the Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Advances in Construction technology, Plannning & designing of Buildings, Bridges, Dams, transportation, Irrigation systems, Testing of Soil & Materials, thorough knowldege in Hydraulics, environment, Water Resouce Management, Sanitary Management. And more over they study the design of Steel and Masonary structures, Town planning etc

Along with core subjects Professional Ethics & Industrial Management is included in curriculum to guide one how to behave and perform duties Ethically knowing all managerial skills in industry as well as society.

Without knowing actual industrial aspects and experience a Diploma program won't be complete. So 52 hours of In-plant training is provided. And one has to do his own Project work so as to bring out his talents and enhance their qualities.

How to become a Civil Engineer?

SSLC / X pass is the minimum eligibility criteria for doing Diploma in Ceramic Technology. A full time Diploma in Ceramic engineering is a 6 Semester / 3 year course.

  1. Must have passed Karnataka SSLC or equivalent examinations.
  2. Candidate other than Karnataka State SSLC has to produce Eligibility Certificate issued by Board of Technical Examinations, Bangalore before admission.
  3. Category I, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB applicable only for Karnataka candidates
  4. Must have domicile certificate having completed at least 5 full academic years of studies in Karnataka, between first standard and SSLC.

Job Scope

There is more scarcity of civil engineers every where today. Students find the major advantages of civil engineering in the government sectors, which has the more opportunities rather than the other fields. It finds the application in Municipalities, D C office, Rural and Public development board, Water supply board etc.

In accordance to the above given information, Civil engineering branch gives more importance to the interaction of many people with the chooser. So, the students get more knowledge about the communication with all field personnel.

Finally civil engineering is a branch which penetrates into a depth and it has a wide range of applications in all fields. All other branches depended on civil in all aspects.

Its scope is vast and plays a vital role in the development of society and environment. Due to this the placement opportunities is everywhere in the same stream or in the other too.

Higer Studies

In Karnataka after completing Diploma there is 10% reservation for each course to get lateral entry to engineering. So after 3 years of diploma they can join directly to 2nd year (3rd Semester) of Engineering.

On completion of Diploma in Civil Engineering they have to apply for D-CET and get qualified for Lateral Entry in Engineering Colleges
